WUI 9: Red Sky/water

$300.00
sold out

Molly Elkind

mixed media weaving with stitch

21" x 17" x 1"

This piece explores on an intimate scale the "wildland-urban interface" (WUI) of my high desert community. The big western sky is rendered in colors of fire and smoke. A plastic survey marker (blue=water), usually seen embedded in the ground to mark underground utility lines, is attached. The top of the weaving is unraveling or perhaps just unfinished. Wildlife and humans both mark the land, but humans play an outsized role in determining the fate of all. The WUI is a zone of precarity and anxiety. . . and of the potential for greater understanding and respect for wildland.
