David Dallabetta

High fire porcelain, burnt wood, and steel

My piece, which is currently untitled, speaks about the secondary growth that happens after a forest fire takes place. Fires are naturally occurring and vital to the health of a forest. Fires burn away all the dead and good for nothing foliage and make way for new life to spawn. I took a piece of forest fire wood and mounted a hand thrown porcelain sculpture that is blooming out of the burnt wood. With its upward motion I wanted to display the gravity defying act that occurs as new life propels itself from out of the soil and into the air.
