Sacred Ground: Fire Tales was created with climate change in mind as fires become a year round phenomenon in Colorado. Campfires are traditionally a place to keep warm, tell stories and break bread, but these same flames could do much damage if allowed. The deer approach the campfire with good intention, as the ravens circle overhead, reminding us that all life is cyclical and the forest will recover and restore life. The animals are set on a map of Highland Peak Colorado, a nod to one of my favorite areas in the state after living in Snowmass, CO. This piece pays homage to the Colorado landscape and the animals within it, with hope that they too will recover from life altering events as their wildernesses continue to shift and evolve due to climate change.
